Chaozhou-style tea set with a gaiwan, glass of golden DanCong tea, loose leaves, and an open book on a wooden table in warm natural light.

DanCong tea is a high-aroma Chinese oolong from Phoenix Mountain in Chaozhou, China, traditionally made from single tea tree cultivars. It is known for its naturally expressive floral, fruity, or honey-like aromas and its terroir-driven character, often described as shan yun, or “mountain resonance.”

Our teas are grown high on Phoenix Mountain (900m+), in mineral-rich soil and misty conditions ideal for premium DanCong.

While not all batches have organic certification, our teas are farmed using traditional, low-intervention methods without harmful pesticides.

Store in an airtight container away from light, moisture, and odors. Avoid refrigeration unless sealed to prevent condensation.

Best enjoyed within 12 months. With proper storage, aroma and flavor can last longer but may gradually fade.

Yes. A gaiwan is ideal, but a small teapot or infuser mug works. Adjust steeping time and temperature for best flavor.

Single-origin tea means all leaves come from one specific region or garden. In DanCong tea, it often refers to leaves sourced from a single mountain area or even individual cultivars, allowing the natural character of the terroir to be clearly expressed.

DanCong tea can taste naturally sweet due to specific cultivars and traditional oxidation techniques that enhance honey-like and floral compounds. This sweetness develops naturally during processing, without any added sugars or flavorings.

No. Jaktea’s DanCong teas contain no artificial flavors. All aroma and flavor come naturally from the tea leaves themselves, developed through traditional cultivation and processing methods.

DanCong tea is highly sensitive to brewing variables, so small changes in water, temperature, or leaf ratio can significantly affect flavor.

Moderate caffeine content — less than coffee, with a gentle, sustained lift.

DanCong teas are traditionally named after their dominant natural aroma, because each cultivar expresses a distinct fragrance rather than a standardized flavor profile.

DanCong can be enjoyed both ways. Hot brewing reveals its layered aromas and evolving flavor over multiple steeps, while cold brewing produces a smooth, naturally sweet infusion with less bitterness. Choose the method that suits your mood and season.

For step-by-step brewing methods, see our Brewing Guide for both gaiwan and modern brewing tips.

Phoenix Mountain DanCong is considered special for its single-cultivar tradition, expressive natural aromas, and the concept of shan yun — a lingering mountain character shaped by altitude, rocky soil, and traditional craftsmanship.
